FDA Warns Public About Cold Remedy Zicam Dangers PDF Print E-mail

The homeopathic cold remedy drug line manufactured by Zicam is in the news this week after the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that the zinc-based line of natural drugs could harm users' sense of smell. So far, the FDA said that it has tied the nasal drug to 180 consumers who are suffering from loss of smell.

The FDA recommended that people cease using the product and asked Zicam to stop marketing the three products they manufacture that contain zinc gluconate until the product is tested for safety and benefit. Many consumers are consulting lawyers and considering class action lawsuits about the defective product.

Many are concerned more generally about the safety of homeopathic drugs like Zicam, which do not face the regulations and scrutiny that more traditional drugs face before they are allowed on the market.
