You may assume that products you buy for your infant, baby, or toddler are safe -- but that is not necessarily the case. Each year, hundreds of children's products are recalled because they pose an injury risk to children. In this article, we share information about defective baby products and list a few recent recalls of deadly infant and baby items.

Dangerous Products And Your Infant | Virginia Defective Baby Product Lawyers

Preparing your home for a new baby can be an exciting process - but as you plug your outlets and baby-proof your home, are you unknowingly bringing in dangerous baby products that could endanger, harm, or even kill your new infant? Although federal regulations and other laws protect consumers from the vast majority of dangerous or defective products, each year hundreds of harmful products - including children's products and children's toys - make their way onto the market and into your home. It may take months or years for them to be recalled.

Some of the most dangerous items in your home when you bring home your baby may include his crib or bassinette, his high chair, his playpen, his clothing, and his toys.

Here are a few notorious examples of dangerous baby and toddler products that have been recalled by the US CPSC in recent years:

· Drawstring hooded sweatshirts. Although these cute pullovers seemed harmless, the drawstrings around the child's neck could get caught in play equipment or furniture, leading to strangulation. One child was killed after becoming caught on playground equipment.

· Simplicity bedside bassinette. These bassinettes, which were designed to attach to the mother's bed, had two different defects that caused smothering and choking deaths in at least four infants. Two other infants were seriously injured by the bassinettes.

· Magnetix buildings sets. These toys were fun for toddlers - until the small magnets broke off of the toys and were swallowed by children. Almost thirty children were injured after swallowing the magnets, which can cause terrible intestinal problems, and one child died.

· Happy Camper and Travel Lite play areas. A number of play areas and play yards have been recalled in recent years, as many of the children's products can collapse onto the child. At least a dozen children have been killed by defective play yards.
