Black Box Technology for Cars PDF Print E-mail

EDRs are "black boxes" -- just like airplanes have. They can record a wide variety of things -- including how fast you drive and whether you "buckle-up for safety."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants EDRs to be installed in every new vehicle beginning with model year 2008 -- on the theory that the information will help crash investigators more accurately determine the hows and whys of accidents.

We agree.

As Virginia car accident lawyers, we have seen many people recieve poor treatment from insurance companies due to the fact that they were unable to provide "proof" that the other driver was speeding, or ran a stop sign, or wasn't obeying the law in general.

Black box technology can help prove important aspects of the accident, which could help injury victims get fair treatment.

This sounds helpful, although I'd be concerned about defects in the box. I have no indicator for my seatbelt on the dash.. how do I know it is properly recording?
