Virginia Girl Dies In Tragic Skiing Accident

The Associated Press reports that a 12-year-old girl from Virginia Beach, VA, died after being seriously injured in a ski accident. The girl, Laila Serpe, was on a spring break ski vacation at Snowshoe Mountain with her parents, Richard and Linda, and her three brothers, sixteen-year-old Sal, 15-year-old Max, and 9-year-old Rex.

The ski accident occurred on Wednesday on a late run down the mountain. After the accident, she was rushed by helicopter to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, where she later died. Her parents are keeping the details of the ski accident private.

She attended the seventh grade at Cape Henry Collegiate School. She wanted to be a professional ice skater when she grew up, and also enjoyed surfing, singing, piano, and skiing.

"She skied right off that mountain and straight to heaven," Linda Serpe said. "She's really an angel."
