Newport News Solid Waste Truck Crashes, Hits Utility Pole PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dianne Todd

A residential neighborhood was left without power after a Newport News solid waste truck crashed into some power lines

and took down a utility pole. No one was injured in the Virginia truck accident.

The accident took place on Gatewood Road in Newport News on Monday when a city solid waste truck hit overhead powerlines and caused a nearby utility pole to break. The truck accident left power lines in the roadway, cutting 25 homes off from power for most of the day and closing the street.

Dominion Virginia Power crews cleaned up the truck wreck scene and expected to have power restored by the afternoon. It is unclear how damaged the truck is or whether solid waste was spilled during the accident. It is also unclear what initially caused the accident and whether driver error was a factor in the VA truck crash.
