Written by Dianne Todd

A father and son both lost their lives when their large pickup truck was thrown into the path of an 18-wheeler on Rte 610 in King George County, Virginia. The truck accident took place at about 2:30 p.m. on April 10.

Virginia State Police report that 59-year-old Ricky Carpenter and his son, 26-year-old Richie Carpenter were driving in a Ford F150 hauling a trailer on the two-lane highway. A gust of wind caused the trailer to veer and the truck to swerve into the path of an oncoming freight truck. The pickup truck hit the tractor-trailer head on.

Neither the father nor the son were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. A third occupant in the truck, a 4-year-old boy riding in the back of the truck, suffered only minor injuries during the truck crash.
